Registration FAQs

  1. I don’t have my child’s Alberta Health care card or number?
If you are a returning family, the chances are the AHC # has already been entered.
If you are a new family, you cannot proceed without this information. Contact the registrar.
  2. When is registration night?
It will be held at the Inn on Crowchild (formerly known as the Ramada Inn) Tuesday February 5, 2008 from 7-9pm.
  3. I can’t remember the position my child played on his/her team last year.
Not a problem, that information is optional. It is strictly used as a way to keep track of the player’s past history.
  4. My child is ready to play in a higher age group than the age-appropriate one. Can he/she move up to the next age group?
Your child will be automatically registered in the appropriate age group, however you may indicate in the “player preference” section that you wish for your child to play up. Our technical committee will evaluate this request and make the necessary changes.
  5. Can I use post-dated cheques?
Yes. Up to 3 post dated cheques can be used. Post dated cheques DO NOT apply to early bird price unless arrangements have been made directly with the registrar.
  6. Do I write a separate cheque for the facility or membership fee?
You can include these fees on the cheque for the Registration.  The Volunteer Deposit and the Jersey Deposit will need to be on separate cheques.
  7. Why is there a facility fee built into the price of registration?
As part of our ongoing long-term goals, the Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club is committed to building a facility that will be used by our members. A substantial amount of money will have to be raised in order to build such a facility. We are now taking the steps to start our fundraising efforts. We guarantee to our members that these monies will only be used for such a purpose.
  8. I can’t afford to put my child through soccer?
Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to play. Please contact the registrar. All players who require financial assistance must go through Kidsport which is an organization funded by various sports associations to help such cases.
  9. When will try-outs be held?
Please refer to our web site www.calgaryblizzard.com for further information. You will be contacted by phone and/or email when we have the dates and times.
  10. I know someone else who wants to play but has never played for Blizzards before?
Please direct these interested individuals to come to the registration night or register on the web site as NEW family.
  11. I missed the registration deadline?
For Outdoor 2008 we will have a cap on registration numbers.  It is likely that late registrations will not be able to be accommodated.  If we have space, you can register late for an additional $50. Late registration will be placed on a waiting list in order of priority. Your priority is based on the time and date of receipt of all form, fees and deposits. If we can accommodate you on a team, you will be contacted by our Technical Director. Refund policy will apply. If we cannot accommodate you on a team, you will be refunded the full amount. DO NOT go to try-outs unless you are told otherwise.
  12. How do I get a player card?
    • Check the CMSA website (www.calgaryminorsoccer.com) to see if you require a player card.
    • If you need a player card, check the CMSA website for dates and times. If you have a card from another club then you should get it at the end of the season from your previous coach and give it to your Blizzard coach. YOU CANNOT PLAY WITHOUT A CARD.
    • If you are a returning Blizzard player, it is your responsibility to make sure you have retrieved your card from your coach. The Registrar will not hold onto your card on behalf of the coach.
    • If you cannot find your card, you can get another at CMSA office at your own cost.
    • If you do NOT return your jersey, we will hold onto the card until such time as it is returned.
  13. I don’t have my CMSA number, do I need it?
All the CMSA numbers have been entered into our system, for returning players. If you are playing for Blizzard for the first time, your CMSA number is written on your player card, give this number to your coach/manager who will enter it into our system.
  14. I’m going on a preformed team. Where do I indicate that? Do I go to tryouts?
Your preformed team coach will be submitting a form on behalf of the team. You must indicate that you are on a preformed team, on the “special requests” section of the registration form. Please note that our technical committee will make the final decision on all preformed teams. The onus is on you to confirm with your coach that you have been accepted on the team and you will NOT be required to attend any tryout sessions.
  15. I’m trying out for another club, what do I do?

You must review that question very carefully. We have a very strict refund policy. Once you are registered with our Club, you may withdraw your application for a full refund minus $100 administration fee before a specific date depending on the season. This will normally be 48 hours before the CMSA Team Entry date. Details will be on the registration database and/or the website. However, if you have attended a Try Out session, no refund will be eligible unless it is for a season ending injury.

  16. What are Technical fees?
The technical fees cover additional technical and athletic training. Once the evaluation process has been completed, the fee is collected if it applies to your team. Please refer to our web site for further details.
  17. Do I need a waiver form?
Once your team is made, your coach/manager will have a team meeting and have the parents sign the waiver forms before submitting the team roster with CMSA. Coaches will have waiver forms included in their package and/or download a copy of the form directly from the CMSA website, sign it and fax it to the coach
  18. I forgot my password?
If you are a returning family, you may obtain your password by entering your 7-digit phone number. The password will be emailed automatically to the designated parent email address. You will see a message to that effect.
  19. I’m a returning family, yet I had to enter all the information all over again?
Contact the registrar or database manager to review the system you are currently using on your computer. The process should only take 2 minutes and you should not have to re-enter any basic information (it’s all in the database). DO NOT PRINT THE SCREEN. For the benefit of all families, we need to know about any problem that may occur so we can fix it.
  20. I get kicked out of the system when I get to the 3rd or 4th page?
Contact the registrar or database manager.
  21. My address/phone # has changed?
You may make the changes yourself when you register online.
  22. My email address and/or contact name has changed?
Contact the registrar who will make the changes on your behalf.
  23. Where do I mail all the form, fee and deposits?
As indicated on the registration form, our address is:

    Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club
    234, 5149 Country Hills Blvd, N.W.
    Suite 252
    Calgary, Alberta
    T3A 5K8

  24. Is there a phone number I can call?
Our website contains the names of all our Directors, Executives and management team. At the moment we have a central email address for all enquiries.  Please contact blizzardadmin@shaw.ca by email first.  Your email will be forwarded to the appropriate contact. When you receive a reply, it is up to the individual to release the phone number or not.
