The Orange Way

Our Player Pathway

Blizzard follows a research-informed approach to long-term player development. Our philosophy, curriculum, and training environment are intentionally aligned to deliver what we call The Orange Way.

At the core of our model is a progressive, building-block framework. Players begin with a strong emphasis on technical mastery and individual skill development. As competency grows, tactical awareness, decision-making, and game intelligence are layered into their training.

Each stage of development is supported by a structured curriculum designed to build the specific competencies required at that level. Progression is intentional – players must demonstrate proficiency before advancing to ensure they are prepared for the demands of the next phase.

Importantly, development is cumulative. As players move through the Blizzard Pathway, foundational skills are continually reinforced while new, more advanced concepts are introduced. This ensures athletes are consistently challenged across both fundamental and high-performance domains.

High Performance Programs

The following programs may be available to players seeking additional development opportunities beyond Blizzard programming.

Please note that these programs operate independently of Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club, and the programs listed below may not be exhaustive and is subject to change. Questions regarding selection, scheduling, or program specifics should be directed to the organizing body. Our Technical Team is available to advise families on the suitability of these programs for individual players.

Alberta Summer Games (U14)

Families should contact their local soccer association for tryout details and timelines.

Opportunities beyond

UK Training Opportunities & International Tours

Blizzard offers annual UK training tours for select teams, designed to provide meaningful international competition and cultural experience.

In collaboration with Leicester City FC, participating groups train in a professional environment, compete against local opposition, attend Premier League matches, and experience behind-the-scenes stadium tours.

These tours challenge players both on and off the pitch. Competing abroad allows athletes to benchmark their development against European standards while building resilience, adaptability, and character in unfamiliar environments.

The UK Tour is more than a trip — it is an opportunity to test, grow, and expand perspective through the global game.

Calgary Wild FC Academy

For Blizzard's female players, the Wild FC Academy represents one of the most exciting new development pathways in Alberta women's soccer — embedded within Calgary's Northern Super League club and launching in February 2026.

Designed in accordance with Canada Soccer, FIFA, and Northern Super League standards, the Academy offers a high-performance pathway for players aspiring to compete at the post-secondary, semi-professional, and professional levels. It features U18 and U23 Reserve programs, integrated training environments alongside Calgary Wild FC's First Team, and a holistic development approach covering technical, tactical, physical, psychological, and academic growth.

Critically, there is no cost to participants for programming or team kits – and the Academy is designed to work in partnership with athletes' home clubs, making Blizzard's role in supporting players through this transition a natural fit.

The Academy is led by Kennedi Kiarash, whose background spans League1 Ontario championship teams, Canadian Youth National Team operations at U17 and U20 levels, and most recently a coaching role with Halifax Tides FC.

Cavalry FC Academy

Right here in Calgary, Blizzard players have access to the Cavalry FC Academy — the official development pathway of Calgary's Canadian Premier League club, and one of the most exciting new structures in Canadian soccer.

The fully funded academy provides a year-round, immersive environment for selected high-potential players – identified through rigorous scouting and evaluated against the standards of a CPL first-team professional. During the competition season, academy players represent Cavalry FC II in League1 Alberta.

The pathway is proven. Alumni include Victor Loturi – Canadian Men's National Team and Scottish Premiership – and Aribim Pepple, who transferred to Luton Town in the English Premier League.

Recruitment & Scholarship Support

Blizzard athletes have earned opportunities across Canada and the United States, securing university placements and scholarships while competing in College Showcase tournaments and high-performance league play.

Our technical staff maintains strong working relationships with post-secondary programs that actively recruit Blizzard players. We guide families through the recruitment process – from initial exposure and communication strategy to identifying appropriate academic and athletic fit.

We also collaborate with TOPP Soccer to provide identification events and additional recruitment support for our athletes.

At Blizzard, the pathway does not end at youth soccer – it extends into meaningful post-secondary opportunities.
