U4–U6: Roots

Roots – Where It All Begins

This is where the love for the game starts. Blizzard's Roots phase is a co-ed program built for our youngest players – a high-energy, joyful introduction to soccer that's all about fun, movement, and falling in love with the game.

Every session is designed around what kids this age actually need: games, exploration, and fun. Through Calgary Blizzard's station-style training environment, players build key motor skills and develop a natural connection to the game – without even realizing they're “training.”

Why Join Roots?

  • Led by Foundation Phase Lead, Tayla Cowan and a team of Blizzard certified staff and junior coaches who bring energy and warmth to every session

  • Programming follows Canada Soccer's Player Pathway, rooted in Active Start and FUNdamentals best practices – meaning every activity is developmentally appropriate and built for this exact age group

  • Canada Soccer's Preferred Training Method (PTM) guides every session, ensuring your child gets a best-in-class grassroots experience from day one
