U10-U13: Core
The Core Program is Blizzard's competitive heart. Whether your player is taking their first steps into league soccer or pushing toward higher tiers, this is where they develop, compete, and grow within the Calgary Minor Soccer Association (CMSA).
The program is open to all U10–U13 players – graduates of our Roots Phase and newcomers – across a full range of tiers and development levels.
What's Included
Players participate in CMSA Outdoor and Indoor League play, team practices, and, depending on tier, Blizzard's technical and skills training, developed and directed by our Lead Technical Directors. Technical training for lower tiers is available as an optional add-on at an additional cost.
Training takes place at either our Shouldice or Bearspaw facilities (indoor season), or Heidelberg (formerly Inland) Athletic Park (outdoor season).
All registrations include goalkeeper training with Summit Goalkeeping – open to current goalkeepers and any player interested in developing between the posts.
U10-U11 – Finding the Right Fit: Dev & Dev+
For U10–U11 players, Blizzard offers two development-focused streams. Placement in either program is guided by your child's needs, interests, and motivations, not ability alone.
Developmental Plus+ is for players who are ready to push themselves in a more competitive environment. Teams compete in a city-wide division, with a longer season and more frequent matches. If your child is motivated to develop quickly and enjoys the challenge of stepping up, Dev+ is the right fit.
Developmental is the ideal starting point for players new to organized soccer, or for families looking for a lighter, more flexible commitment. Teams play in a regionalized format — closer to home, shorter season, lower pressure. A great environment to build confidence and love for the game before stepping up.
Not sure which stream is right for your child? Reach out – we're happy to help you find the best fit.
U12-U13 – Tiering Considerations
The jump from U11 to U12 is an exciting one. U12 marks the first year of tiered league play through CMSA. The tier system exists to ensure players are competing – and developing – at the right level. Here's how it breaks down.
Tier I & Tier II – For players who are more developed and experienced in the game of soccer
Tier III & Tier IV – For recreational players and/or players who are entering the sport for the first time
