Team fundraising

Throughout the season, many teams organize fundraising initiatives to help offset additional expenses such as tournament fees, travel, and team events. While some families may choose to contribute directly, fundraising ensures that all players have the opportunity to participate – regardless of financial circumstances.

It also provides something just as valuable: team-building experiences away from the field.

Raffles and 50/50 draws can generate significant revenue through a single, well-organized campaign. All raffles and draws require a valid Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC) license and must comply fully with provincial regulations.

Teams may consider:

  • Setting up sales tables at supportive local businesses

  • Promoting through team networks and community channels

  • Securing appealing prizes to drive ticket sales

Bottle drives are simple, efficient, and often highly profitable. They need relatively little upfront investment and can deliver strong results in a short timeframe. Some tips for success:

  • Select a neighbourhood that has not recently hosted a bottle drive

  • Advertise in advance using social media and community boards

  • Place signage strategically several days ahead of collection

Pub Nights & Silent Auctions

Many teams have successfully hosted pub nights at local venues in Northwest Calgary. Typically, ticket sales include a meal and a beverage with teams supplementing the evening with a silent auction, prize draw, or sponsorship drive.

If alcohol or raffle components are included, ensure you obtain the appropriate AGLC license and follow all regulatory requirements.

Pub nights can be excellent community-building events while generating meaningful funds for tournament travel and team experiences.

Why Fundraising Matters

Fundraising isn’t just about covering costs – it’s about creating opportunity.

When teams work together off the field:

  • Players build stronger bonds

  • Parents connect and collaborate

  • Financial barriers are reduced

  • Team culture grows stronger

Blizzard encourages teams to approach fundraising with creativity, transparency, and inclusivity.
