Elite Competition Comes Home: Introducing the FTF x Calgary Blizzard Crown Showdown

For too long, elite youth soccer in southern Alberta has had to travel to find its biggest tests. Our APDL teams have crossed provincial borders and international boundaries to compete against the best programs in North America — because the competition simply wasn't coming here.

That changes now.

Calgary Blizzard SC is proud to announce a landmark partnership with FTF Canada — one of the country's most respected voices in elite youth soccer — and with it, the inaugural FTF x Calgary Blizzard Crown Showdown. For the first time, we're not sending our best players to the stage. We're building the stage right here in Alberta and inviting the best to come to us.

What Is the Crown Showdown?

Taking place over the Victoria Day Long Weekend, May 16–18, 2026, the Crown Showdown is a premier showcase tournament designed for elite U15–U18 programs across Canada and beyond. It's not just about competition — though the competition will be fierce. It's about exposure, recognition, and putting southern Alberta on the national elite soccer map.

📍 Calgary, Alberta 📅 May 16–18, 2026 👥 U15 (2011) | U16 (2010) | U17/U18 (2008/2009)

Venues span three of Calgary's finest facilities — Edge School, Springbank Lions, and Webber Academy — giving the event a premium setting worthy of the teams competing in it.

The Exposure Opportunity

This is where the FTF Canada partnership becomes truly significant. FTF will be bringing in contacts from NCAA, USPORTS, CCAA, NAIA, and JUCO to evaluate talent in person — giving every player on the pitch a genuine audience with post-secondary programs across North America.

For Blizzard's APDL players, this is the kind of visibility that previously required a flight. Now it's happening in our backyard.

Every game matters too. A Player of the Match will be recognised after every game, standout performers will be featured in an article on The Playbook, and all awarded players will be amplified across FTF's social media channels. A Tournament MVP and Tournament Champion will be crowned at the end of it all — along with the trophy that gives this event its name.

The Format

Every team is guaranteed 3 round robin games across Saturday May 16 and Sunday May 17, with Semi Finals and Finals on the Monday. All games are 60 minutes, played between 8AM and 9PM across the tournament window.

Important Dates

  • Application Deadline: Friday, April 17, 2026

  • Schedule Released: Friday, May 1, 2026

  • Tournament Dates: Saturday May 16 – Monday May 18, 2026

Please note: this tournament is currently open to APDL League Teams only

A New Chapter for Southern Alberta Soccer

This partnership is bigger than one tournament. It's a statement that elite youth soccer in southern Alberta has arrived — that our players don't need to leave home to be seen, challenged, and recognised at the highest level.

We're incredibly excited about what this means for Blizzard, for our APDL players, and for the future of the game in this province.

The Crown is up for grabs. Come and take it.
